Preseason Week 3 Takeaways

Written by Sal Leto, FLAFFL House Podcast Co-Host and Writer, @letosal on Twitter and @sal33 on the Fantasy Life App

The all important week 3 preseason games are complete. For all intents and purposes, you can comfortably draft now and know who's going to miss time or lose a job. As we get ready to one up our league mates here's a final look back at the important takeaways from this weekend games:

Falcons v Dolphins

- Kenny Stills has asserted himself as the number two WR in this offense stop overvaluing DeVante Parker and believe what your eyes tell you

- Matt Ryan, you serious man? Nothing more than bye week fill in and even then the matchup better be good

- not a whole lot to see from Tevin Coleman and DeVonta Freeman but the first team touches were shared and Coleman was split out wide on back to back plays inside the redzone

- The Dolphins offense just flat out looks better when Arian Foster is on the field

Cowboys V Seahawks

- Who thought that any rookie could out hype Zeke this preseason? Well it's happened right on his own team. The china doll is broken again and the fantasy world is a buzz with Dak Prescott. Here's what I'm saying, don't draft him early, don't draft him to be your starter, but he has a presence about him and is very polished, calm and capable. He is going to make plays against the opposing defenses

- As for the original hype, Zeke showed up for the first time and looked like the stud he will be. I like that he's delivering hits I just would like that he stay healthy. I've been cool on Zeke but I'm not going to argue with anyone who takes him early he's worth the risk.

- Yes Lockett scored a TD but he's not playing in two receiver sets and is running behind Jermaine Kearse with significantly less first team snaps. Adjust your ranks accordingly

- If me telling you Russell Wilson is good is breaking news then we need to talk

- Cole Beasley is a sneaky good flyer in PPR leagues he's been getting a bunch of underneath receptions in the preseason and could become a security blanket for Dak

Patriots v Panthers

-Cam that was ugly brah

- you want a QB stash for dynasty then grab Jacoby Brisett this is the kid that will replace Brady. Garoppolo is gone after this year and Brady has maybe two more after this one. Brisett is big, strong, athletic and can play the position worth the look

- Chris Hogan is going to make the Bills look like fools ala Welker and the Dolphins years back

- Devin Funchess will impact this offense and is currently a better value than Benjamin

Bills v Redskins

- Kirk looks every bit as confident as he finished the year and is loaded with receiving weapons to make a run at last years numbers

- Rob Kelley: Dynasty leaguers give him a once over

- While others are reaching late in the draft might I recommend looking Pierre Garcon’s way

- Outside of a Jonathon Williams 37 yard TD run the most noticeable thing about Buffalo was Rob Ryan is in town and the Bills gave up 3 passing TDs in the second quarter

Steelers v Saints

-Big Ben returned and the offense looked finely tuned. AB flashed what the number one overall pick should look like but what has become muddled is who will be that next guy. Coates, Wheaton, Heyward Bey and Eli Rogers will likely take turns screwing up your lineups

- Jesse James is going to be the steal of your draft

- The Saints have struggled to get in a flow on offense but there are signs that they're ready to break out

- Willie Snead will return bigger dividends than Brandin Cooks

- the stats show Fleener one catch four yards but he had a nice down field catch for 25+ called back on a hold and another where he was close lined and unfortunately lost the ball and nor flag was thrown. He will fit in fine in this offense

- CJ Spiller you damn tease you, just know he was running with the first teamers and was in on third down catching passes. This could significantly cut into those 50 balls Ingram caught last year

Browns v Buccaneers

-Football fans should be pissed at Josh Gordon. Why? Oh I'll tell you why, because he has robbed us of watching him make plays and show up on highlight reels. He is so damn good

- You know who else is good? Jameis Winston. I know it's the Browns and its preseason but he was impressive. I'd be comfortable with him as my qb1 in 12+ leagues

- Mike Evans will be in the elite WR convo when the season is over

- Vincent Jackson says I'm still breathing over here

- When Gordon is back RG3 is gonna be reminiscent of Dante Culpepper just tossing the ball up and letting Randy Moss figure it out except he has Terelle Pryor to give him two deep threats

Packers v 49ers

-Well we learned Blaine Gabbert will be the QB in SF no way lunk head Kaepernick sees the field now

- A few things came clear for me in regards to the Packers, draft Jared Cook not Richard Rodgers, Randall Cobb is going to out perform his ADP and the guy to have as the WR3 on this team is Jared Abbrederis

- Carlos Hyde had just convinced me to feel comfortable with him as my RB 2 and then he got concussed 😑

-Draft Niners only if you're desperate

Chiefs v Bears

-I want Spencer Ware on my team whether I have Jamaal Charles or not

- I keep hearing that Zach Miller is a sleeper but I keep seeing Rob Housler and Tony Moeaki playing with the starters

- The Bears are not good but they could be the poster child for garbage time gold passing points this year

Lions v Ravens

-the crowded Ravens backfield looked more blurry with rookie Kenneth Dixon showing up big, but then he tore his MCL.

- it really looks like Terrance West is going to be a factor in the Ravens offense, I know right…

- Theo Riddick has actually been getting carries not just receptions this preseason

Eagles v Colts

-Ummm we might have to start noticing Sam Bradford at least until the injury

- I'm taking Zach Ertz and no other receiver on the Eagles, he's going to be a PPR TE stud this year

- I'm praying for you Andrew, this OL might get Luck killed this year

- You can choose to miss out if you like but Donte Moncrief is happening

Giants v Jets

- This was the sack of crap game of the week

- I've spoken at great length about my love for Eli this year and I've announced OBJ is my number one player over AB and you know what? The Giants look like dog poo.

- Eric Decker just keeps catching touchdowns and he keeps going undervalued in drafts

- Matt Forte played, just not well. Meanwhile, Bilal Powell continues to be the better value

Titans v Raiders

-Andre Johnson, come on man don't do this to us. You come in looking all jacked and catch three straight passes for 65 yards. It's not right man just not right

- Carr to Cooper making Raider fans tear up over here and they're gonna be pretty good for your fantasy team too

- Clive Walford may not be a 5 catch a game guy but they will look for him in the redzone, Carr just flat out missed him wide open for a touchdown but the targets are there

- I like DeMarco I really do but it's gonna be hard to keep that Manchild Derrick Henry off the field

- The Deandre Washington buzz is for real

Rams v Broncos

-Mark Sanchez is basically done in Denver the only question now is how long can Siemian hold off Lynch

- Todd Gurley didn't play so that leaves basically nothing to discuss about the Rams

- Virgil Green is going to challenge Jesse James for biggest steal of your draft

- I've seen enough to feel comfortable that Thomas and Sanders will remain weekly starters for your fantasy teams

Chargers v Vikings

-Teddy B looked like an NFL QB even showed a little shake and bake on a 22 yard run that just broke the defenders ankles

- Stefon Diggs looked every bit the part of WR 1

- Kyle Rudolph why you Andre Johnsoning me bro? I write you off and you produce I pick you up and you rip my heart out. I'm gonna need you to make a decision here are you good or bad at football?

- Melvin Gordon has burst and quickness and is quickly climbing up my draft board

Cardinals v Texans

-Carson Palmer cut it out man I picked you guys to win The Super Bowl and this passing game which has juggernaut written all over it looks UGLY

- Will Fuller grabbed a hold of that wide receiver two spot like a boss

- Andre Ellington if you played like that last year you'd be starting my friend

- Darren Fells worth a look in deep leagues at TE

Bengals v Jaguars

-Gio had more rushing yards than Hill, Hill had more receiving yards than Gio so the whole system is breaking down. Both of these guys are going to be worth it

- I don't know about you but my eyeballs tell me TJ Yeldon is the back I want in Jacksonville

That's my take on week three of the preseason. Much like the starters I'll skip covering week four of the preseason and instead bring you my take on the upcoming season. See you here next week.
