Thursday Night Football
Carolina Panthers @ Denver Broncos 8:30 PM (Est)
Wings. Pizza. Beer. Your lucky jersey you haven't washed in 5 years. Can you smell it? That beautiful/terriblesmell can only mean one thing.. Football! The start of the NFL season is a mere 24 hours away. Per tradition, we get a rematch of last year’s Super bowl. Von Miller and the Denver Broncos vs. Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Everyone remembers Von Miller’s dominant performance in last year’s SB. Compiling6 tackles(2.5 sacks). Including a strip sack turned touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. He will need to repeat that performance for his teamto come out on top again this time around. The Broncos have many questions still need answering. Primarily on the offensive side of the ball. Good or bad, we are going to learn a lot about this year’s Broncos Thursday night.
The Panthers are healthy and will look to bounce back after the way their dominant season ended last year. I see the Panthers taking opening night in a reversed Super bowl score line. 24–10 Carolina.
Below is my version of start’em (The good) if you’re desperate ( The bad ) and sit’em ( The ugly) for Thursday night football.
The Good: Cam Newton
Cam was terrible in Super bowl 50. Completing 18 of 41 attempts, but it wasn’t all his fault. He was under pressure the entire game, andhit a ridiculous 13 times. The Panthers will make it a point to right the ship after being embarrassed by the Bronco’s Defense. Prediction- 250 Yards passing 1 TD with 30 yards on the ground and 1 rushing TD for Newton.
The Good: Demaryius Thomas
Demaryius Thomas and CJ Anderson are the only two on the Denver Offense I have any confidence in starting week 1. DT will be a volume play. Look for him to be Siemien’s security blanket. North of 10 targets wouldn't surprise me. Prediction- 70 Yards and 1 TD
The Bad: Denver Defense
You might be thinking to yourself; How can the number 1 scoring defense last year be in the bad category? They did lose a couple key pieces to free agency this offseason, but this is not where the trouble is looming. The trouble lies with the offense. With Siemian at the helm, I fear the defense will find themselves on the field more often.
The Ugly: Trevor Siemian
I’m still scratching my head, wondering how Siemian is the week 1 starter in Denver. I wouldn't even consider starting him in a two quarterback league. Unproven, bad matchup, barely beat out Sanchez this preseason.. need I say more? Prediction- Siemian will be outside the top 20 QBs week 1.
